Getting to Jasper National Park

Jssper National Park - located in the beautiful province of Alberta Canada - offers many excellent transportation options including access by car, air, rail , or bus. Jasper National Park is located approximately 192 miles west of Edmonton, 500 miles northeast of Vancouver, and 256 miles northwest of Calgary.

Driving
Begin by taking the Trans-Canada Highway #16, sometimes called the Yellowhead Highway. This highway runs directly through the park and acts the primary route to and from Jasper. Jasper is connected with the Trans-Canada Highway #1 by way of the Icefields Parkway, near Banff.

Jasper's major roads are paved, and all important highways feature paved shoulders. Do allow extra time to account for inclement weather and slow traffic. Jasper National Park allows a maximum speed limit of 55 miles per hour. Be aware that certain areas possess slower speed limits for wildlife safety.

Occasionally, a few of the roadways, such as Mount Edith Cavell, prove too difficult to navigate for large recreational vehicles. Plan accordingly, as rough and difficult weather and road conditions can make tight hairpin curves treacherous.

Be aware that steep grades, ranging anywhere from 8% to 11%, are located on the Icefields Parkway. The long, precipitous grades are situated near Bow Lake. Drivers should also take care when going up and down the Sunwapta Pass, which is found near Columbia Icefield.

Flying
Jasper National Park is served by three major airports including Vancouver (YVR), Calgary (YYC), and Edmonton (YEG). A variety of national and international flights come into these airports. A car rental will be needed to get from the airport to Jasper National Park from one of these three airports.

By Train
Jasper National Park is also accessible by train. The Via Rail provides access from both Edmonton and Vancouver in the form of daily trains.

By Bus
Greyhound Bus serves both Banff and Jasper. Edmonton and Vancouver offer consistent options to reach Jasper National Park by way of bus service.

Brewster Transportation and Tour provides regular tour buses from Banff to Jasper National Park. This service takes you along the magnificent Icefield Parkway.
