About the Big Bend National Park
Big Bend National Park is located in Far West Texas. It is a beautiful place where the sun shines down on canyons, rivers and desert. Wildlife abounds and beautiful cactus plants bloom.
Many areas of Big Bend National Park remain undeveloped. These areas provide many opportunities for backcountry enjoyment. There are approximately 200 miles of hiking trails. The park also offers several different camping areas. Park visitors may bring their horses to the park. Horses are permitted on all gravel roads in the park. Several of the campgrounds are also open to horses.
River trips are available on the Rio Grande River. The river trips vary in length from half a day to several days. As you float down the Rio Grande, you will go through miles of canyons. Some of the canyons rise up 1500 feet above the river. In these areas, sunlight does not usually reach the river. If you are observant, you may see turtles, beavers, herons and kingfishers as you float down the river.
